Change of idea: Alpha Centauri

Unfortunately the Glitchy Geoff idea was scrapped as some members of the group didn’t seem to think that the idea would work as well as their new idea.

The new idea that they came up with was a new planet estate agents. Alpha Centauri is a planet that has everything and more that earth ever had. And as Earth is deteriorating, people of Earth have to decide where they want to go. We decided to do 4 1min 30 videos as in the brief it states they should be 6 minutes altogether. Most of the shots will be locations of Alpha Centauri as a planet and Centaurians promoting people of Earth to move here.

Other planets are available for them but we want them to come to Alpha Centauri..that’s what we want to show in the videos.

All the roles are the same as before, so I’ll be concentrating on the website. The website I feel is going to be a bit challenging for me as I’ve only ever made one which was to my preference and my HTML skills aren’t up to par. But this will also give me some more experience with website designing.

As a group we created a Facebook group to discuss matters, as some weren’t always able to come to meetings. On there we contributed to location spots, video ideas and general discussions.


Glitchy Geoff

We agreed on an unintentional teleportation web series, as it seemed like an interesting concept that could portray a humorous video series for most audiences.


Glitchy Geoff is a man of unfortunate events. Been given a faulty watch to review he is then forever in this cycle of random teleportation. This could happen at the best of times or at the worst.


The webisodes would be quite short vlog type videos that would show the watch malfunctioning him to a different place altogether. For instance, a scenario we came up with was if he were to be having a shower, he would teleport to the artic where he’d obviously be very cold. The videos wouldn’t show all the places he’s been too, just the flash of him gone and the flash of him back from where he’d teleported. Something we discussed was a Valentines edition where he tries to go on a series of dates with this one girl; this would fit in with the month of February. Some of the videos would have been shot by him, so him holding the camera vlogging, and other times it would be like a documentary where it would show you places he’s been.

Karl Pilkington’s An Idiot Abroad inspired the idea for this concept. Karl Pilkington as a person was the sort of character we wanted to play the role of Geoff, as his persona is a very laid back, no fuss sort of guy that gets puts into situations that don’t agree with him.


Inayat and I were in charge of the web design and social media and we had created a Twitter as that would able him to interact with his audience and fellowship. We also thought of making him an Instagram so his audience could also see where he’s been. As this is set in the future the use of technology would become a lot of integrated into our lives as humans so keeping social accounts online would most likely become mandatory.


Something that I as in charge of was Photoshopping Glitchy Geoff into random situations for his social media accounts. We wanted to make them funny and interesting, something that would definitely have a story behind them. There are some awkward scenarios as well as joyous ones, we wanted a mixed vary as we wanted to keep it as realistic as possible.


As a whole I think that this web series would be an interesting turn of events.

Channel Project

We were given this brief;

Your group’s task is to speculate into the future and design an online channel, with a defined audience, complete with site branding and sample video/ audio content. Toset up a fictional web-channel set at a projected point in the future which promotes or reports on one of the following areas:

Travel, health, entertainment, architecture, communications, politics, environment

The channel should contain a series of web-episodes which you must produce using video and audio technologies. The total online footage should not exceed 6 minutes when edited. The video content should have some recognizable connection with, or reference to the brand you have created.

A One-Day themed project will also be announced during the project and will be expanded on during the Production Lectures. The seminar group at the end of the One-Day project must upload this work to your blog ready for viewing. You may also choose to continue to develop these ideas to include in your final web-portfolio submission. Your group’s task is to speculate into the future and design an online channel, with a defined audience, complete with site branding and sample video/ audio content.

and within our group we brainstormed a few ideas which included telekinesis, robotics, unintentional teleporting, new spaces, worlds and living. We thought that doing a mockumentary style vlog of unintentional teleporting would be a different aspect to the channel project.

We then thought of roles for pre-production and production. we took in account what we all new how to do individually and what we would want to do, we came up with this;

Fire Kills Campaign

Fire Kills Campaign


For one of our 2 week projects, we were given a brief that was to think and present a campaign idea to deliver and/or convey the message of fire safety, the outcome had to be of visual theme and help the consumers to be a lot more fire safe within their own homes and environments. As a group we decided to stick to a wide audience as we thought everyone should be informed about fire safeties.

Brainstorming helped us come up with a few ideas, all quite different from each other.

One of the first ideas we thought about was the maze type game, which led to thinking about stylising it around a well known arcade game Pac Man. The simplified game would create a clearer path for the user which then would make a lot more space for information during the game.

We had also found this interactive catwalk video ( which had multiple links to items of clothing, in which we thought you could use for an interactive YouTube video. YouTube is a major marketing place now that they allow a lot of adverts before videos are played and various adverts placed around the site. Also with YouTube there is a huge amount of people that visit the site, so making an interactive video is something that will go viral and most definitely get the important message of fire safety to everyone who watched it.

We had also seen, through research, an advert that had a different message if you were looking at it in a different perspective. The original advert was for child abuse to advise children if they are being abused to tell someone. We thought that it would be an interesting concept to deliver something similar. Instead of having it change for different angles, we thought distance would be a lot more appropriate for our campaign. So as the person walking closer the person’s face would start to burn away.

The last idea we had was a first person’s game, which was inspired by Mirror’s Edge. This would be a game layout of just white buildings and the highlighted areas were the fire hazards and safety issues.

House Inferno, this is a first person’s game which allows the user to first make a map route for an unsuspected fire, and a plan B route. During the game, walking around the house  trying to follow the route you first made, will come up with obstructions to exits and/or pathways, which will be highlighted in red. This will inform the user about keeping rooms tidy and about how keeping exits clear will make for a better getaway. The plan B route will then show up if you come to an obstruction, you will follow that route out and you’ll be safely outside and out of the burning building.

Another part of this game is that your phone can be integrated to the game on your computer. This enables you to see the map of your house from a simplified birds eye view. It will show the obstructions in red, and show you the planned route B, there is a time limit of deciding about your Plan B as in burning house situations you don’t have a lot of time to think.
