For one of our 2 week projects, we were given a brief that was to think and present a campaign idea to deliver and/or convey the message of fire safety, the outcome had to be of visual theme and help the consumers to be a lot more fire safe within their own homes and environments. As a group we decided to stick to a wide audience as we thought everyone should be informed about fire safeties.
Brainstorming helped us come up with a few ideas, all quite different from each other.
One of the first ideas we thought about was the maze type game, which led to thinking about stylising it around a well known arcade game Pac Man. The simplified game would create a clearer path for the user which then would make a lot more space for information during the game.
We had also found this interactive catwalk video (http://www.clickvid.co.uk/) which had multiple links to items of clothing, in which we thought you could use for an interactive YouTube video. YouTube is a major marketing place now that they allow a lot of adverts before videos are played and various adverts placed around the site. Also with YouTube there is a huge amount of people that visit the site, so making an interactive video is something that will go viral and most definitely get the important message of fire safety to everyone who watched it.
We had also seen, through research, an advert that had a different message if you were looking at it in a different perspective. The original advert was for child abuse to advise children if they are being abused to tell someone. We thought that it would be an interesting concept to deliver something similar. Instead of having it change for different angles, we thought distance would be a lot more appropriate for our campaign. So as the person walking closer the person’s face would start to burn away.
The last idea we had was a first person’s game, which was inspired by Mirror’s Edge. This would be a game layout of just white buildings and the highlighted areas were the fire hazards and safety issues.
House Inferno, this is a first person’s game which allows the user to first make a map route for an unsuspected fire, and a plan B route. During the game, walking around the house trying to follow the route you first made, will come up with obstructions to exits and/or pathways, which will be highlighted in red. This will inform the user about keeping rooms tidy and about how keeping exits clear will make for a better getaway. The plan B route will then show up if you come to an obstruction, you will follow that route out and you’ll be safely outside and out of the burning building.
Another part of this game is that your phone can be integrated to the game on your computer. This enables you to see the map of your house from a simplified birds eye view. It will show the obstructions in red, and show you the planned route B, there is a time limit of deciding about your Plan B as in burning house situations you don’t have a lot of time to think.
